Vocati Session with Tanya Geisler, Imposter Syndrome Expert

On March 11th I drove to meet a client that I’ve known and connected with over the ethers for years, but this was our first in-person meeting and I was beyond excited. 
 

I was also something else. 
 

Let me back up a minute and say the last couple of years I’ve spent around 100 days traveling for work (which is also pleasure). 
 

When I was home I was mostly home. 
 

But out in the world that day things felt particularly strange.


We hadn’t hit the “global pandemic” stage yet, but things were certainly different. 
 

When I got to our meeting spot and we first saw each other, we realized that maybe getting all squishy and huggy wasn’t the wisest thing to do. 

Odd. 
 

This was definitely a hugging moment. 

Anyway, we carried on with our photo session, which of course was absolute magic because Tanya Geisler is ABSOLUTE impeccable magic.  

It was a different type of session though, sprinkled with moments of “huh, is this really happening?” kind of commentary, and texts rolling in letting us know that we were officially now in a “global pandemic”. 

There were moments during our time together where questions sort of hung in the space asking, “Is it right to be doing this right now? Ok to be reveling in glory, and beauty, and sensuality, and pleasure, and self-expression?” 

The answer felt so damn clear. 

Yes. 

So right. 

Make it glorious, regal, gorgeous, audacious. 

Live, live live. 

Be all in. 

Good gawd I’m glad we showed up that day. 

Tanya, you are a powerhouse; elegant, warm, funny, wicked smart, and damn sexy. Your Work in the world - not just what you do, but how you do it and what you stand for - is so essential. 

I don’t ever forget a photo session, and the love flows mad strong for those who step in front of my lens. 

But this session will always bookmark a particular moment in my own pandemic story, and I’m grateful for that. 

I share this story as a reminder that when we get the chance to show up, to revel in our glory, to be all in, to express, and create, and shine our beauty out into this tortured beautiful world…

The answer is yes, sharing our beauty and creativity with the world is one of the most generous, benevolent things we can do.
